Melbourne’s new Hannah St. Hotel where style meets street
A first look! Hannah St. Hotel brings bold boutique style to Melbourne’s Southbank this summer.
Melbourne’s Southbank is set to welcome its boldest boutique addition this summer, with the opening of the Hannah St. Hotel, a $150 million project from Collection by TFE Hotels.
The 188-room hotel, designed by award-winning Flack Studio, fuses art, architecture, music, and hospitality into an experience that captures the grit, glamour, and creativity of Melbourne’s southern edge.
Developed by Time & Place, in partnership with Hickory, MaxCap Group, and TFE Hotels, Hannah St. Hotel forms part of the landmark Queensbridge precinct, a mixed-use development breathing new life into Southbank. Ideally positioned alongside the $1.7 billion Melbourne Arts Precinct transformation, the property is poised to elevate the area’s cultural and tourism offering.

A design statement in Southbank
Flack Studio’s signature aesthetic – expressive colours, collectable art, custom furniture, and bold materiality – is woven throughout the hotel’s interiors. For interior architect David Flack, the project represents a milestone in his career:
“This site is incredible, and Hannah St. will deliver an elevated and memorable hotel experience not only through the materiality and aesthetics of the design, but with the F&B and intuitive service on offer,” he said.
The triangular site and striking façade have already drawn comparisons to New York’s iconic Flatiron Building. Flack explained that the vision was to create “something part grand hotel, part underground bar, part cultural clubhouse, with spaces that feel layered and nostalgic, but completely of now.”

Embracing its urban surrounds
Set against the dramatic backdrop of Melbourne’s Kings Way overpass, the hotel doesn’t shy away from its urban setting. Instead, its design embraces the constraints, transforming them into a bold architectural identity. Rising from the podium of the 65-storey Queensbridge Building, Hannah St. Hotel will anchor a dynamic new neighbourhood precinct.

A community gathering place
For Tim Price, Director of Time & Place, the project was about creating welcoming public spaces with a sense of belonging:
“The idea is to make people feel like they’re part of a place which is much loved, that has substance and timelessness. Our aspiration is to be the neighbourhood’s gathering place, like the old corner milk bar – part of people’s daily routine, where inside and outside spaces blur.”

A new chapter for Southbank
When doors open this summer, Hannah St. Hotel will bring a new energy to Melbourne’s cultural and tourism landscape – an urban retreat where modern nostalgia meets street-level style.
