Queenstown Mayor opens redeveloped Coronet Ridge Resort
The multimillion-dollar redevelopment transforms the former Nugget Point Hotel into a 41-room luxury alpine retreat overlooking the Shotover River in Arthur’s Point, just minutes from Queenstown’s town centre.
Queenstown’s tourism sector has welcomed a major new addition, with the official opening of the redeveloped Coronet Ridge Resort marking a fresh chapter for one of the region’s most recognisable alpine hotel sites.
Queenstown Lakes Mayor John Glover formally opened the resort, cutting the ribbon at a launch event on Thursday March 12, 2026 attended by the property’s owners, representatives from the local tourism sector, project partners and invited media.

The multimillion-dollar redevelopment transforms the former Nugget Point Hotel into a 41-room luxury alpine retreat overlooking the Shotover River in Arthur’s Point, just minutes from Queenstown’s town centre.
Mayor Glover said the redevelopment highlights the importance of continued investment in tourism infrastructure as Queenstown’s visitor economy continues to grow.
“The location of this hotel has always been a standout feature for its customers – the sweet spot between the countryside and easy access to a thriving downtown Queenstown,” he said.
“The former Nugget Point hotel stood the test of time, but it is wonderful to see the site revamped, refreshed and re-named under new ownership that has the confidence to invest in our district.”
The project has been led by New Bay Group, which acquired the property in 2022 and has undertaken a comprehensive refurbishment of the site.
New Bay Group Executive Director HC Tan said the team recognised the property’s potential from the moment they first saw it.
“We saw Nugget Point Hotel in 2022 and fell in love with it. To see Coronet Ridge Resort come to life in such a spectacular setting is immensely rewarding,” Tan said.
“We believe this property will set a new standard for alpine luxury in New Zealand and become a sought-after destination for discerning travellers from around the world.”
The resort is operated by Capstone Hotel Management, with General Manager Ethan Heng leading the property’s day-to-day operations.
Capstone Managing Director Clare Davies said the redevelopment has been designed to pair the property’s dramatic natural setting with a premium guest experience.
“Coronet Ridge Resort is a truly extraordinary property, and we are privileged to be entrusted with its management,” Davies said.
“Our team is dedicated to delivering an experience that reflects the ambition and vision of New Bay Group, where every guest feels the magic of this remarkable location from the moment they arrive.”
The opening comes as Queenstown continues to record strong tourism performance. Hotel operators in the region have also reported simultaneous growth in revenue per available room (RevPAR), occupancy and average daily rate (ADR), reinforcing Queenstown’s status as one of New Zealand’s leading tourism destinations.
Positioned high above the Shotover River, Coronet Ridge Resort is located in the exclusive Arthur’s Point area, around 10 minutes from Queenstown’s town centre and 15 minutes from the airport.

Amenities at the property include a Roman-inspired day spa, outdoor hot tubs, a premium fitness centre, squash courts and a private cinema. The resort also features conference facilities for up to 30 guests, targeting small corporate retreats and executive gatherings.
Dining is centred around Elevation Bar & Restaurant, where guests can take in sweeping views of the Wakatipu Basin, the Remarkables mountain range and the Shotover River. The venue is led by Executive Chef Dominic Dsouza, with a seasonally inspired menu designed to complement the alpine setting.
The resort’s location also places it within easy reach of Coronet Peak Ski Area, just 13 minutes away, positioning the property as a year-round base for visitors exploring Queenstown’s outdoor attraction.
