Passenger flights at WSI Airport a game changer

AA CEO James Goodwin said the airport's opening creates new opportunities for hotels, accommodation providers and tourism operators

The nation’s peak accommodation body said the start of passenger flights from Western Sydney International Airport is a landmark moment for tourism, jobs and economic growth in NSW and beyond.

Accommodation Australia CEO James Goodwin said the airport’s opening on 25 October creates significant new opportunities for hotels, accommodation providers and tourism operators.

“This is a game changer, not just for Sydney, but for the entire Australian visitor economy,” Mr Goodwin said.

“Greater aviation capacity, increased competition and new international connections will help attract more visitors, support business travel and encourage investment in accommodation and tourism infrastructure.

“With 24-hour operations and capacity for 10 million passengers annually, the airport will also strengthen Sydney’s position as a competitive international tourism destination.

“This is particularly important as Australia works to grow its visitor economy, attract new international markets and support the thousands of businesses and workers who rely on tourism,” Mr Goodwin said.

The head of Accommodation Australia (NSW) Dominic Catanzariti welcomed the start of passenger flights.

“The benefits will extend well beyond Western Sydney, creating opportunities to attract more visitors to destinations across regional NSW, including the Blue Mountains, Southern Highlands and beyond.

“Improved access will also help regional destinations reach new international markets, encouraging visitors to stay longer and spend more in local communities.

“The investment in aviation infrastructure must be matched by strong transport connections to and from the airport and a coordinated plan for accommodation investment to support the airport’s projected growth over the coming years,” Mr Catanzariti said.
