Airlie Beach resort ready to go

Construction on the One Whitsundays Resort and Spa is about to begin between Marina Shores and Shingley Beach in Airlie Beach after site clearing was carried out last week.

Work is expected to start on the $70 million resort before Christmas and be completed by the end of 2016, according to One Whitsundays CEO John Zappia.

The resort had been planned by Ivana Trump as super-luxury apartments but One’s general manager Anthony Leenders said the original plans had been modified to suit the current market and investors’ requirements but would be five-star.

Mr Leenders said he expected it would take about two years to develop and the boutique resort complex that will comprise 75 strata titled apartments of 1, 2 and 3 bedrooms most with 270° of unobstructed views. It would include a spa, gym, conference centre and lagoon-style pool.

Mr Zappia said a major drawcard would be the exclusive conference room that would be able to host up to 300.
