Amamoor Lodge

It’s not too often in the accommodation industry that you hear of managers being at the same property for 22 years. But John and Cynthia Hayes have. Albeit their bed and breakfast business was built only six years ago but they have owned the 50 acres their property – Amamoor Lodge – sits on for 22 years.

Cynthia said, “We bought the property from the original owners, the Sanders family who were well renowned for providing work to locals during the war years. When we bought the farm, the only accommodation on it was the single worker’s quarters. In 2003 this was expanded into the beautiful building it is today.”

After a successful five-and-a-half years, the demand for accommodation at Amamoor Lodge got too much and an additional studio apartment complex was built to accommodate the demand.

“The studio apartments were completed six months ago and we are so glad we did. Now we have a total of eight rooms between the two and the studio apartments are perfect for those guests who want a comfortable stay with self catering facilities.”

Originally from the area, Cynthia and John had a plumbing business for a number of years before creating Amamoor Lodge.

“John was a plumber for 40 years whilst I managed the office. After so long he was looking for a new career, so the B&B was a wonderful change.”

Set on 22ha only a few kilometers from the heart of the hinterland township of Amamoor on the Sunshine Coast, Amamoor Lodge offers guests a unique accommodation experience.

With the original B&B and new studio apartment complex, Amamoor Lodge clientele can choose between the of two styles of accommodation.

The B&B features three traditional bed and breakfast suites; the Grevillea, Callistemon and Banksia. All are 4½ star rated and feature handmade patchwork quilts and cushions made by Cynthia herself.

The Callistemon and Banksia sleep two people comfortably in a queen size bed and generous size room with private ensuites. These two suites are part of the old living quarters and feature walls made from original timbers cut on the property.

The Grevillea suite is designed for all able access (whilst also being suited to the able bodied guests) with wheelchair access, a queen bed as well as a single bed and large bathroom.

Guests who choose to stay in the B&B have access to all the lodge areas including the guest dining and lounge room as well as all verandahs. Breakfast is included in the tariff.

There are five studio apartments in the new complex. These apartments are perfectly suited to those who just want to do their own thing or couples who don’t require the traditional B&B package.

Each of the five apartments feature king size bed, reverse cycle air conditioning, free wireless Internet, television/DVD, hair dryer, iron and ironing board, tea and coffee making facilities, large desk, self catered kitchenette and private bathroom.

Cynthia said, “They have been designed in heritage style to keep with the traditional look of the lodge and have been built for comfort and practicality in mind for the benefit of all guests.

An east facing aspect provides spectacular views of the Australian bush and fills the living space with an abundance of natural light.”

With three horses on the property, Amamoor Lodge guests are welcome to bring their own as there is a horse riding group that comes by the property a couple of times a month. The property also boasts a rainforest walk, a koala corridor with 1000 trees and every now and then, John and Cynthia take their Cobb & Co horse drawn coach into town to meet the famous Mary Valley Rattler steam train.
