Caloundra Throws Weight Behind Tourism Body

Within days of the announcement that Sunshine Coast Destination Ltd has four new directors on its board and a fresh vision for the future, some of the biggest names on Caloundra’s business scene have committed to back the regional body by accepting appointments to the southern region Destination Advisory Panel.

They are Crowne Plaza GM Anthony Johnson, Caloundra RSL marketing manager Lloyd Mills, co-owner of Portobello by the Sea Pia Rule and Caloundra Cruise operator Rose Mc Bride. They join Turf Club committee member Don Jackson, Chamber of Commerce CEO Steve Gaeth, Quad Park board member Leanne Layfield, Monaco’s Barry Collins and Rumba Resort’s Bill Darby.

“Thanks to our new members and the ongoing commitment of our existing panel, we now bring together a more diverse collection of tourism expertise than ever before,” says panel chair Bill Darby.

“Each member is being very generous with their time to represent tourism operators in working towards a better and more prosperous Caloundra”.

When Sunshine Coast Destination was established, a DAP representing each sub-region was set up to ensure there was a link between tourism operators across the Coast and the decision makers in regional tourism marketing.

“We are lucky to have a very loyal visitor base from both Brisbane and regional southeast Queensland who love Caloundra for its friendly locals, relaxed feel and beautiful surrounds”, Mr Darby says.

“What we see as a key role of the panel is embracing our great Caloundra brand, working together with operators and ensuring that our message gets shouted out to both traditional and new markets.

The exciting part is that now we can do this under a strong regional brand with a view to attracting more tourism dollars than ever before”.
