Alpine resorts looking for manager investment
In an effort to reduce Victorian state government subsidies, the alpine resorts of Mount Baw Baw Alpine Resort and Lake Mountain are seeking long-term operational managers.
Victorian environment minister Ryan Smith says the tender process would secure the resorts’ sustainable economic future while reducing the reliance on taxpayers’ pockets to subsidise these resorts.
The Victorian government has pumped more than $6 million into Mount Baw Baw over the last two years. Chairperson Vicky Papachristos said it was the board’s vision to attract environmentally sensitive investment proposals under a four-year agreement to ensure the resort became economically viable.
Lake Mountain already has a short-term one-year agreement with private operators that expires next month.
