Hobart pub to be budget apartments
Hobart developer Anard Developments plans to convert a disused pub and bottle shop at Mt Nelson into a budget apartment complex.
Anard Developments director Richard Harris plans to convert the former Mt Nelson Tavern building into 21 apartments. The plan is to redevelop the existing “tired and dilapidated” building into a three-storey modern project which Mr Harris says would “blend into the surrounds” thanks to cladding and natural hued render.
“The residents will range from 17- to 18-year-old students from country areas going to Hobart College, uni students, single people and young professional couples and empty nesters,” Mr Harris said.
The building is part of a strata-titled property that includes a number of privately owned housing units. “I had to get 100 per cent agreement from 20-odd other strata-title holders that took about two to three months,” Mr Harris said.
He said most residents were relieved the empty building would be converted for residential use rather being turned into another pub.
