NSW strata laws for “limited” consultation

NSW’s strata reform package is back on track timewise, according to fair trading minister, Stuart Ayres.

“We’ve managed to get draft bills quicker than expected and next week we’ll be releasing them for limited consultation for a period of four weeks,” he said. “We are aiming to be in a position to introduce these bills into parliament this financial year.” Supporting regulations will be drafted over the second half of 2014.

Included in the bill is a regulation that allows 75 per cent of unit owners to agree to sell their building for redevelopment. It also will curb proxy harvesting and ease the acceptance of pets in strata title buildings. It also wants to empower councils to patrol strata car parks and fine or remove cars of illegal users.
