NSW hotels get subsidised energy audits

The Office of Environment & Heritage NSW, for a limited time, is offering larger hotels (those that spend over $60,000 annually on electricity, the opportunity to undertake a level 2 energy audit, capped at a $5000 contribution from themselves.

This is a significant departure from the existing program that offers 50% subsidised energy efficiency investigations. The audit would provide a detailed financial business case to support identified
projects, tailored to the properties needs at a time when electricity prices have already increased dramatically in the past five years, and gas prices are forecast to rise exponentially as domestic production is sold overseas.

The audit will also investigate opportunities for properties to utilise the NSW Energy Savings Scheme to gain additional payback through the generation of Energy Saving Certificates.

The scope of the audit can include a NABERs rating, itself valued between $4000 to $8000. The usual AUD 500 application fee will be waived during this period.

Previous businesses engaged with the Energy Saver program have on average identified electricity and cost savings of 23%, and are saving over $13 million per year on power bills. The offer is open until the end of April.
