Destinia gets the first reservation made by Google Glass
Rodney Loges, from Occoquan, Virginia, has become the first traveller in the world to reserve a hotel room using the Google Glass. The businessman is the first client of Hotel Near Me, the edge-cutting app developed by Destinia.com to search for and reserve a hotel. Mr Loges booked a room at the Holiday Inn in Woodbridge (Virginia) for $142.
“I needed to reserve a hotel nearby for some investors coming to visit me, and I was surprised how easy it was, literally in the blink of an eye” said Mr Loges, founder of the financing company One Degree Capital.
Hotel Near Me is the first application in the world for booking hotels through Google Glass. The app has only just been released on the website http://hotelnearme.com. Users can find the closest hotels to their GPS position, see photos and hotel information, filter by price and then book the hotel. The app can show a map of how to get to the hotel and give directions right up to the front door. The user can control the app either by swiping and tapping on the Google Glass or else by using voice commands such as “book hotel”.
Google Glass became available to the public on 15 May at a price of $1500 while the Hotel Near Me app is completely free.
“We were thrilled to already get the first reservation”, said Amuda Goueli, CEO of Destinia.com. “The wearable technology market is set to grow exponentially over the next few years and we aim to lead the travel sector in developing technology for it”, he added.
Destinia plans to add more functionality to the app, and is also developing an international version with multiple languages and currencies for the Android and iOS platforms on smartphones.
