Jail for strata company manager

Rachael Kwawegen, the co-founder of Sydney strata company The Strata Agency, has pleaded guilty to stealing more than $1 million and has been sentenced 15 months in prison.

She allegedly stole from the trust accounts of apartment and investment owners for cars, a house and extravagant lifestyle over a 2½ year period.

In the Parramatta Local Court heard on Tuesday [16 September] magistrate Bruce Williams sentenced the former real estate agent to a non-parole period of nine months.

All of the apartment owners have been compensated for the missing cash by a property fund operated by the NSW Department of Fair Trading.

Ms Kwawegen established The Strata Agency in Crows Nest and Manly in 2010, taking a number of top apartment buildings from long-established strata companies. The company was placed into liquidation last year after the Department of Fair Trading investigation
