Brookfield to transform Australia’s largest hotel

Stage one of M&L Hospitality’s ambitious multi-million dollar redevelopment of Four Points by Sheraton Sydney, Darling Harbour (Four Points) at 161 Sussex Street Sydney, has commenced following the appointment of Brookfield Multiplex as contractor.

The project will see the Four Points hotel expanded with a third tower; an expansive convention, exhibition and meeting space; a new dining precinct and improved public areas connecting pedestrians from the CBD to Darling Harbour. Already Australia’s largest hotel, the additional 25-storey tower will add 222 new guest rooms to the Four Points hotel, bringing the total number of rooms to over 900 on completion in 2016.

“We are thrilled to continue working with M&L Hospitality on this landmark project. The 161 Sussex St redevelopment project will spearhead the revitalisation of Darling Harbour as a dynamic tourism hub and builds on our exemplary track record of delivering world-class buildings and infrastructure projects.” said David Ghannoum, regional managing director of New South Wales at Brookfield Multiplex.

The redevelopment will create a major tourism and economic boost for Sydney and help deal with Sydney’s current shortfall in hotel accommodation and event facilities,” said M&L Hospitality chief executive officer Neil Maxwell.

“Working with Brookfield Multiplex in the early stage of development has been successful and we are excited about continuing on to the next phase.” Neil Maxwell added.

Addressing the shortage of event space in Sydney, the new 4800m² of pillar-less convention, exhibition and meeting space will provide an iconic and versatile venue space in the heart of Sydney. Designed with floor to ceiling glass to maximise natural light and uninterrupted water views of Darling Harbour, the space will include two ballrooms with seating up to 1100 theatre-style, 11 breakout/meeting rooms, dedicated pre-function space and state of the art audio visual technology.

The hotel transformation, which is scheduled for completion in two years, will create over 2250 jobs during construction and a further 90 hotel jobs on completion.
