New backpacker network starts this week

A new operator-led independent backpacker network – Hostels Australia will be launched this week and its Google Maps-driven website is already operating.

Hostels Australia describes itself as “a collective of Australia’s top rated independent hostels in each city/town” around the country.

Over 20 properties have already joined the network.

In an official statement to The Byte, Founders, Christian Millett and Mark Baldwin said, “A network with Australia’s best hostels has been discussed for years, with many of the key operators already having informal referral arrangements in place. We are thrilled to come together and create a formalised network recognising the best properties and independent operators in each city. By linking like-minded, independent operators across the country, Hostels Australia will aim to strengthen direct bookings through joint marketing campaigns and the promotion of the Hostels Australia membership program.”

Australia’s best known hostels, like Wake Up!, Bounce Sydney, Gilligans, Space Hotel, Urban Central and United Backpackers have joined the network.
