May start for Brisbane airport hotels

Queensland builder Watpac has been awarded the $78 million contract to build two new hotels and a conference centre at Brisbane Airport.

The Australian construction company has signed the contract with Flynn Property Group with major works due to start in May this year.

The $150 million project includes a new Brisbane Airport Conference & Meeting Centre and two new on-site hotels from the Accor family – a five-star Pullman, and a 3.5-star Ibis property.

Located within walking distance of Brisbane’s domestic terminal, a short bus or train hop across from the international terminal and close to the Airtrain station for connections to the CBD, the two new hotels add to Accor’s ever-growing presence at Brisbane Airport, with the existing Novotel Brisbane Airport hotel under the chain’s management, along with Qantas’ domestic and international lounges.

The Pullman Brisbane Airport is set to boast 130 rooms, including two presidential suites, 10 junior suites and 45 executive rooms. The hotel will offer a lobby lounge bar with space for up to 60 guests, 24-hour room service, a restaurant with seating for up to 152 people, a private dining room for up to 12 patrons for more intimate events and , a freeform leisure pool and a 20m lap pool.

The Ibis Brisbane Airport will stand a little wider at 243 rooms, including 99 superior rooms, plus an alfresco indoor/outdoor restaurant catering to 160 diners and a ground floor indoor/outdoor bar for 100 patrons, along with a cafe, bar and takeaway facility and a rooftop bar and lounge with space for up to 150 people.

Brisbane Airport’s new Conference & Meeting Centre will hold up to 600 people across a 300-seat pillar-less ballroom, eight medium-to-large conference rooms and four executive boardrooms.
