Accor acquires digital services firm Fastbooking as part of new strategy

Accor has acquired digital services provider Fastbooking in a move that prompts expectations the brand will seek to boost the technological development of its hotels.

According to the company’s chairman and chief executive officer (CEO) Sébastien Bazin, this is the latest step in a larger digital strategy.

He said: “Following the acquisition of Wipolo last October, this new transaction enables us to further expand our capabilities and strengthen our digital expertise for the benefit of our hotels.

“While maintaining its independence, Fastbooking will now enjoy the support of a global leader capable of providing the resources it needs to make the most of its enormous potential, so that it can continue to innovate for an even larger client base.”

Fastbooking CEO Jean-Gérard Galvez added: “Accor’s investment in FASTBOOKING marks the beginning of a new phase in our development.

“It is also a sign of recognition for the incredible work done by our teams, who have spent the past few months redesigning our solutions to make them even more innovative and efficient.”

The financial details of the transaction have not yet been disclosed. Last week, Accor revealed in an investor note that its revenue increased 4.8 per cent across all segments, driven in particular by the luxury/upscale segment, which was up 9.2 per cent.

Accor’s ownership and investment division HotelInvest also revealed, its first quarter revenue report, that its business in the Asia-Pacific grew by 5.2 per cent (versus 2.7 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2014).

“Thanks to a solid performance in Australia (up 6.5 per cent) – reflecting strong demand in Sydney and Melbourne, which benefited from numerous events in the first quarter – and despite the further deterioration of the situation in China (down 5.2 per cent).”
