Tips from the latest research on digital hotel lobbies

Now that guests are travelling with more devices and screens than ever before, technological expectations are rising particular in areas of convenience.

Self-service check-ins are more diverse than ever before with kiosks, mobile apps, stationary iPads, iBeacons, and others, there are a multitude of ways you can boost the productivity of your front desk.

AN-digital hotel lobbies 1Crucially, this doesn’t mean eradicating your personality from your lobby space, it just means diversifying your entrance.

Digital hotel lobbies are something accommodation providers need to consider, according to a new data report released by Skift.

This new report cites a survey that found nearly 60 per cent of respondents said they’d use self-check-in if it saved them time.

A further 76.2 per cent either agreed or strongly agreed that the check-in desk was “an important in-person experience during their stay”.

To maximise your lobby’s potential then, a compromise would ideally be met. Technology should ease the process, not complicate it so options are key.

Or perhaps iBeacons could direct your Bed and Breakfast guests to the breakfast dining room so you don’t need to worry about manning the lobby while you’re serving a meal.

Geo-mapping could be another useful tool, giving local businesses the opportunity to attract your guests with discounts, enabling you to earn commission.

Combining these technologies in useful ways is something anyone can do at their own pace to keep up with so many new trends.
