Mercurial rise as hotel group celebrates 50th

Mercure has reached its 50th hotel milestone in the region with the announcement it will open four new hotels in Australia and New Zealand within the next three years.

AccorHotels’ midscale brand will add Mercure Auckland Queen Street, Mercure Canberra Belconnen, Mercure Southport on the Gold Coast and Mercure Melbourne Doncaster over the next three years.

Simon McGrath, AccorHotels’ Pacific chief, said that the expansion will benefits guests, loyalty members and the community.

[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”27469″ align=”left” padding=”10″]“We are thrilled to announce our 50th milestone for the Mercure brand and add four new Mercure hotels to AccorHotels’ Pacific network in dynamic locations including the Gold Coast, Canberra, Melbourne and Auckland,” he said.

“Mercure is a leading global midscale brand with a strong reputation for delivering quality service and great guest experiences.

“Each of these hotels will have significant impacts locally, driving employment and tourism to each location.

“We look forward to working with the owners and further expanding our new-build Mercure network of hotels”.

Mercure Auckland Queen Street is an eight-storey, 96-room CBD hotel touted for opening in 2019 and featuring a restaurant, conference room and fitness centre.

It is the latest in a swathe of new hotels planned for the city as it struggles to accommodate an unprecedented rise in international visitors – including a rapidly growing Chinese market.

Mercure Canberra Belconnen will also open next year and features five levels and 125 rooms, plus access to the event and conferencing facilities of the adjoining Canberra Labor Club.

The new-build Southport hotel on Queensland’s Gold Coast will be located close to the Australia Fair Shopping Centre, offering 130 rooms, a restaurant, bar, fitness centre and pool when completed in 2021.

And the Mercure Melbourne Doncaster, also slated for a 2021 opening, will offer 190 rooms over six floors in the heart of Melbourne’s Doncaster business and shopping district.

The addition of these four new hotels take the total number of Mercure properties across Australia, New Zealand and Fiji to 55, with Mercure Sydney Bankstown, announced in 2016, opening in 2020 above Bankstown RSL Community Club on Marion Street.
