Book now – but book direct

Spike in WA summer holiday bookings could see some miss out

Urging Western Australians to book now for the upcoming summer holidays to ensure they don’t miss out, Tourism Council WA (TCWA) CEO, Evan Hall has also reminded travellers to consider booking directly with tourism operators.

Mr Hall’s comments follow the release of the tourism body’s latest Quarterly Tourism Business Activity Survey which has shown a surge in summer holiday bookings, with businesses reporting an average 16 percent increase in forward bookings.

The survey also showed an overall increase of 21 percent in business activity during the recent WA school holidays.

“We encourage Western Australians book now for the summer school holidays – not only accommodation, but tours, attractions, and restaurants as well,” Mr Hall said.

“Solid forward bookings give businesses confidence to increase supplies, recruit staff, and offer more services for guests.”

Mr Hall said the tourism body would like to remind travellers to consider booking directly with tourism operators.

“Online booking agents charge up to 30 percent in commission, so contacting the business directly may mean you receive the best deals and most accurate travel advice,” he said.

Mr Hall said TCWA  was seeing some Western Australians, previously reluctant to travel due to COVID-19 and risk of isolation while away from home, now returning to intrastate travel.

“Previous surveys have indicated some Western Australians were choosing to stay home due to concerns over COVID-19,” he said.

“But with WA’s high vaccination rate and reduction in outbreaks, many of these travellers are feeling more comfortable with resuming their intrastate travel plans.”
