Airbnb names Melbourne as one of its top travel destinations for 2024

According to Airbnb’s latest travel trends report, Melbourne can expect a surge of tourists in 2024. 

Using data from worldwide searches on Airbnb for 2024 travel dates, the booking platform has has revealed what cities are on the top of people’s travel lists for the new year, with Melbourne the only Australian destination making the global top 24.

The data indicates that 2024 is shaping up to be the year of globetrotting for many travellers– with many exciting international destinations appearing in the list of trending destinations. Japan in particular is piquing the interest of tourists, with Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto all appearing among the most trending destinations for travel in the new year.

Italy is another hot travel destination in 2024, with Milan, Rome and Cortina d’Ampezzo all making the list of top destinations.

Lille and Paris, France have also made the list as the world prepares for the 2024 Paris Olympics to kick off in July. 

Meanwhile, the vibrant Carnival is encouraging travellers to consider a ‘bucket list’ experience in Brazil, with Rio de Janeiro making an appearance in the trending list, and Brazil seeing an increase in searches of 136 percent for Carnival weekend. 

Additionally, Airbnb has revealed the most booked categories globally for 2024

Following on from a busy social calendar at the end of the year, travellers are indicating a desire to recharge and relax, with national parks, amazing views, beach, amazing pools and iconic cities all appearing in the most booked categories for 2024.
