Perth Holiday Parks Put up ‘No Vacancy’ Signs

Perth’s accommodation crisis has filtered through to caravan parks, with mine workers flooding the city.

The parks, dotted around the metropolitan area, are steering clear of longer term tenants and charging as much as $840 a week for a serviced chalet. Tourists who came to Perth on an impulse would find it difficult to get last-minute accommodation because most of the accommodation had been booked in advance.

Perth Vineyards Holiday Park manager Ray McGillivray said though he could still accommodate tourists, his semi-permanent and permanent sites were booked and had been for several months.

He said he was still rejecting as many as four inquiries a week for permanent sites as people tried to find an affordable accommodation solution.

Perth Central Caravan Park owner Chris Sialtsis said many of his chalets were booked weeks in advance. He said he had only a handful of long-term residents remaining at the park. He refused to take on new permanent residents because it was not commercially viable to do so.
