Tingo survey: travellers not responding

Tingo – the new hotel booking site that watches travellers’ reservations and refunds them when prices drop – has announced the results of its first hotel booking survey of more than 1000 respondents.

According to the survey, 80% of travellers did not cancel and rebook hotel stays in the past 12 months, while around 20% took the effort to rebook hotel rooms when prices dropped – something that Tingo does automatically.
Over half of the travellers said that in the past 12 months, they never even checked back to see if the price of their hotel reservation(s) dropped before they stayed. Had they checked, nearly 40% of them could have gotten money back.
“Not surprising, but still sad, was seeing that more than 50% of travellers are potentially losing out by not making the effort to see if rates drop,” said Tingo Travel watchdog George Hobica. “But that just reinforces our conviction that launching Tingo is good for consumers and offers them a fantastic opportunity to get money back after they’ve booked a room. And for the 20% of travelers who are manually doing what Tingo does effortlessly, here’s their chance to get onboard and let us do the work for them.”
Tingo estimates that about a third of travellers booking money back rooms will get money back. On average, travellers who get a refund are putting $35 back in their pockets for two-night stays. Refunds can be much higher though—one traveler recently got nearly $300 back, saving almost 60% on her reservation.
