Refurbishment

First phase of renovation completed at Mercure Brisbane

Nestled along the Brisbane River, in the heart of the city, Mercure Brisbane has unveiled the finishing touches of its multi-million dollar rejuvenation offering a vibrant new welcome for its guests this coming summer.

General manager Mark Wilkinson explained that the room renovations represent phase one of what is an extensive and all encompassing three-part refurbishment plan for the hotel that will continue into 2014.

He said the dramatic room renovation tells only part of a story that will be fulfilled with the completion of a complete lobby and ballroom update this summer, followed by a restaurant and bar update in late 2014.

“The feedback we have received since unveiling our room update and facelift has been overwhelming,” said Mark. “In this important first phase of renovation we wanted to completely redesign and deliver something fresh, fun and vibrant that befits our brand and great location near to both the bustling CBD and South Bank entertainment action in Brisbane. I think we have definitely accomplished that, and the best thing is that there is more to come.

“It had been seven years since the Mercure Brisbane was last renovated, so guests are understandably amazed when they walk into their rooms at the moment. It’s just such a fresh look and feel. I think our use of colour and the remodelling of our bathrooms has created the biggest buzz, and has left the greatest impression on guests. Corporate female travellers in particular say that they really appreciate the sense of space and openness of Mercure’s bathrooms.

“They love the fact that they can now enjoy bigger showers now in the place of what was an outdated and somewhat cumbersome bath and shower arrangement.”

Mark added that both corporate and leisure clients also appreciate the new contemporary chaise lounges and window boxes the hotel has introduced to help create more of a living room feel for those away from home. “Mercure’s design team created window frames and soft and subtle curtaining to help draw attention to the hotel’s fabulous views across the Brisbane River. We do have great art in-room by local artist, but it’s perhaps these living pictures in innovative frames that make the most impact.”

Mark said that given the success of phase one, the Mercure Brisbane is now about to embark on phase two of its refurbishment project. “We are in the midst of updating our ballroom this summer, which signals the beginning of the second stage. This will be continued in early 2014 with the redesign of the hotel’s lobby lounge area, which we are very excited about.

“Our third and final stage will commence in late 2014 and extend to Mercure’s food and beverage outlets, not least of all Quay restaurant. I think once we complete all phases the colour and design underpinning our bold room design will be enhanced even more, as the colour palette and conviviality of our design really speak through all areas of the hotel, from arrival in the lobby, through to rooms, conference space and our restaurant design.

“It will all tie in together and make a really great story – I can’t wait.”

The quintessential ‘River City’ hotel, one of the city’s most popular, now not only boasts some of the most spectacular views Brisbane has to offer, but following its eight month renovation, the super stylish hotel now showcases Mercure’s beautiful, new design standards throughout all of its rooms, providing excellent value for all.

Adopting the Mercure Dédicaces standardised styling approach to room renovation, interiors at Mercure Brisbane reflect the area’s local character, using vibrant colours, emblazoned black and white imagery of the famous river on the bed heads, and the use of visually striking, space-saving furniture has immediately energise the rooms vibe.

The chic rooms are fitted with new bathrooms complete with walk-in showers, large hand basins and LED mirror lights. New lighting, digital LCD TVs, glass fronted fridges, internet access, room safes and clock radios with iPod docks have been installed, adding instant modernity.

Brisbane’s summer social calendar is also looking hot, as throughout November the city welcomes the Good Food & Wine Show, musicals including Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and into 2014, the smash hit Rocky Horror Show at QPAC, offering the best local, national and international talent.

Mercure Brisbane’s prime, riverside location and close proximity to the QPAC entertainment precinct, GOMA, South Bank and the City Cat Ferry (North Quay Terminal), that operates between St Lucia and Hamilton, means guests of the hotel can quickly and conveniently explore the city by water.

Alternatively, the bright sights of Brisbane can be enjoyed at a leisurely pace, with 16ha of cafes, restaurants, cycle paths, gardens, a swimming lagoon and of course vibrant market stalls on offer year-round.
