Instameet turns thousands of tourists into instafans
Thousands turned out for Sunshine Coast’s first ‘Instameet’ over the long weekend, with 14 locations around the Sunshine Coast turned into ‘Instameet’ venues where visitors could capture the diversity and richness of the destination.
The landmark social media event was an initiative of Sunshine Coast Destination Ltd and Tourism and Events Queensland and a perfect weekend saw thousands of images of the region’s best attractions uploaded to Instagram.
The Instameets were held at a wide range of locations including beaches such as Noosa, Mooloolaba, Bulcock and Coolum, as well as the famous Eumundi Markets, the Hinterland towns of Montville and Maleny, and at the Caloundra Music Festival.
The Instameets were attended by one of the country’s top instagrammers, Pauly Vella, who gave advice to both seasoned and novice Instagrammers during the day.
Sunshine Coast Destination CEO, Simon Ambrose, said that the region was a “natural” for Instagrammers: “We were fortunate to have perfect weather, so the results of Instameet look spectacular,” he said. “If a picture tells a 1000 words, then the Instagrammers produced a library’s worth of coverage over the weekend to highlight the diversity and character of the Sunshine Coast.
“What was important for us was to show that the richness of the destination goes well beyond our beaches, with the vibrancy of the Eumundi Markets, the spirit fo the Caloundra Music Festival and the breath-taking beauty of the Maleny Botanic Gardens and Glass House Mountains all being captured by the Instagrammers. We will certainly be repeating this in the future.”
