2025 Wedding Trends: Strategies for accommodation operators

The Australian wedding industry is evolving as couples navigate the impact of rising costs

The Australian wedding industry, worth an estimated $4 billion annually, is evolving as couples navigate the impacts of rising costs and changing preferences.

For accommodation operators, particularly those offering event spaces, understanding these trends offers opportunities to capture a growing share of the market by catering to the specific needs of today’s couples.

Using insights from the 10th Annual Australian Wedding Industry Report, AccomNews has highlighted how operators can capitalise on 2025’s top wedding trends:

Cost-conscious couples: Flexible package options

With the average Australian wedding cost rising 4.5 percent to $35,315, many couples are forced to juggle their dream day with financial constraints. The cost of living continues to climb, with engagement rings alone costing an average of $5854—equivalent to three weeks’ wages.

For accommodation providers, offering flexible wedding packages can make all the difference.

With this in mind, operators can tailor their wedding packages to fit varying budgets. Offer tiered options that allow couples to add or subtract services based on their priorities, such as providing a basic ceremony and reception bundle with additional upgrades for décor, catering, and entertainment.

This gives couples the ability to splurge on their “must-haves” while controlling costs elsewhere.

Micro-weddings and intimate venues

As guest numbers decline and micro-weddings gain in popularity, operators with smaller, more intimate venues can position themselves as ideal settings. Smaller wedding parties, which cost less and feel more personal, have become increasingly popular as couples focus on meaningful celebrations with their closest friends and family.

To cater to these couples, look at creating package deals that include accommodation for all attendees, creating an all-in-one experience that combines an overnight stay, the ceremony, and the reception for a smaller guest list.

Friday weddings on the rise

One of the most notable shifts is the decline in Saturday weddings in favour of Friday celebrations. This trend allows couples to save on venue costs and vendors while giving guests a full weekend to recover or enjoy local attractions.

To market your property to guests looking to wed off-peak,  you can create deals for out-of-town wedding guests, incentivising them to turn their trip into a long weekend away and explore local attractions after the celebration.

The rise of DIY

The data shows that guests are becoming increasingly focused on sustainability and cost-saving. Accommodation operators who promote these DIY options—whether in décor, catering, or event planning—can attract budget-conscious and eco-conscious couples.

Additionally, promote the sustainability benefits of local vendors, seasonal flowers, as well as eco-friendly options in-house.
