Club Wyndham expands footprint with Mission Beach acquisition

New tropical retreat offers a fresh drive-to destination for vacation club owners.

Travel + Leisure Co. is set to bolster its Australian portfolio with the acquisition of Castaways Resort & Spa Mission Beach, a much-loved tropical beachfront property on Queensland’s Cassowary Coast. The resort will be rebranded as Club Wyndham Mission Beach, joining the growing Club Wyndham South Pacific network.

The move marks the 67th property in the club’s portfolio and the 36th in Australia, strengthening the region’s drive-to holiday offering for the club’s nearly 60,000 South Pacific owners.

Situated along a 14-kilometre stretch of palm-fringed coastline between Cairns and Townsville, Mission Beach is famed for its unspoiled beauty and proximity to natural wonders including Dunk Island and the Great Barrier Reef. With tours launching from the town often free of crowds, the location provides a rare blend of serenity and adventure.

“Mission Beach is a tropical North Queensland gem,” said Barry Robinson, President and Managing Director of International Operations at Travel + Leisure Co. “It lends itself to both unplugged relaxation and discovery of Australia’s natural wonders. With occupancy rates averaging close to 90 per cent in our vacation club, we’re excited to showcase this destination to our owners and guests.”

The beachfront resort features 48 studio, one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and loft-style apartments, as well as two pools with ocean views, a restaurant and bar, Drift day spa, and popular wedding facilities. A staged refurbishment of apartments and selected shared spaces will commence in the coming months, with the resort remaining operational throughout.

Surrounded by the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Wet Tropics, the area offers travellers rich biodiversity, rainforest trails in Djiru National Park, white-water rafting on the Tully River, and coastal skydiving experiences.

The acquisition, brokered by ResortBrokers, reflects Travel + Leisure Co.’s confidence in the region, as Mission Beach gears up for a $19 million Town Centre Revitalisation Project backed by local, state, and federal government.

With more than 100 properties in the Asia Pacific and three vacation ownership clubs serving over 100,000 members, Travel + Leisure Co. continues to expand its reach across the region—delivering dream holidays and driving tourism development in the process.
