Porter to powerhouse: Luke Roberts-Lalli takes the helm at QT Newcastle
His appointment signals fresh momentum for QT Newcastle, the brand’s first regional property, which opened in 2022.
QT Hotels & Resorts has announced the appointment of Luke Roberts-Lalli as General Manager of QT Newcastle, marking a new chapter for the design-led hotel in the heart of Newcastle’s East End.
Now calling the Steel City home, Roberts-Lalli brings more than a decade of luxury hospitality experience spanning some of Australia’s most iconic destinations—from the Gold Coast to Melbourne. His appointment signals fresh momentum for QT Newcastle, the brand’s first regional property, which opened in 2022.

Roberts-Lalli’s hospitality journey began in 2010 as a porter on the Gold Coast. His dedication to guest experience saw him rise through the ranks, securing leadership positions at prominent hotels in Melbourne and Queensland. In 2022, he joined the EVT family as Executive Assistant Manager at QT Gold Coast, where his dynamic approach and operational excellence quickly stood out.
Recognised for his leadership potential, he was selected for EVT’s Executive Leadership Accelerator in 2023, a program designed to develop emerging talent across the group. Shortly after, he was appointed General Manager at Rydges Cronulla, marking his first role at the helm.
David Sude, General Manager of QT Hotels & Resorts, said, “Luke’s drive, creativity and people-first leadership style make him a natural fit for QT. With deep experience across hotel operations, openings and food and beverage, he brings fresh perspective and momentum to QT Newcastle. I look forward to watching the hotel continue to evolve under his direction.”
Reflecting on the new role, Roberts-Lalli said, “QT has always felt like home. We celebrate bold creativity, and I’m honoured to lead QT Newcastle in a city that shares those same values. I look forward to building on the strong foundation laid by Michael Stamboulidis and continuing his legacy as an active part of our local community.”
QT Newcastle occupies the heritage-listed David Jones building and features 104 uniquely styled guest rooms, Rooftop at QT, and the award-winning Jana Restaurant & Bar. Since opening, the hotel has carved out a reputation as a cultural and culinary landmark.
Luke Roberts-Lalli officially commenced his role in June 2025.
