Located at 68 Duke Street, the hotel is ideally positioned close to Cambridge’s renowned sporting facilities, historical attractions and vibrant food and shopping precincts. It’s also just 15 minutes from Hamilton International Airport and 1.5 hours from Auckland.

At the helm is Scottish hospitality leader Cameron Kellow, who joined Capstone Hotel Management from Scone Palace, one of Scotland’s most prestigious heritage destinations.

He said: “I’m thrilled to bring my passion for hospitality to The Clements and lead this exciting opening.

“We’re positioned to elevate Cambridge’s accommodation offering at the premium end of the market, while becoming a destination for exceptional dining, memorable events, and genuine community connection.

“Owners Gerry Westenberg and Jo Pannell have created something truly special here.”

The restoration pays homage to this building’s legacy while elevating it to a new level of boutique luxury. Inspired by London’s iconic Claridge’s, the hotel features a thoughtful mix of restored Edwardian rooms and newly created attic suites with leafy views.

From the Deluxe King Rooms to the opulent Clements Suite, every space has been designed to offer comfort and character. Accessible rooms are also available.

Original architectural details have been preserved throughout, from stained-glass windows and red brick walls to a grand wooden staircase, while new amenities bring a contemporary edge.

Dining and events are central to the guest experience, with Gallery Restaurant showcasing local produce and global influences. The adjoining Clements Café & Wine Bar flows effortlessly from morning pastries to evening aperitivos, creating a social hub for guests and locals alike.

The property also includes a versatile collection of meeting and event spaces, including a 36-person conference room, a 10-seat boardroom and a 100-square-metre events lawn, ideal for weddings, private events and corporate functions.

Further enriching the guest experience is The Clements’ unique backstory; a nod to the hotel’s Irish-born founder, Archibald Clements. A bespoke gin, crafted by the neighbouring Cambridge Distillery Co., has been developed exclusively for the hotel using a rediscovered 1860s Irish recipe.

And there’s more to come. Set to open in late October, the original horse stables have been transformed into three interlinked private suites with luxury cottage charm. The hotel’s basement will soon reveal 1866, an underground speakeasy bar inspired by Prohibition-era Chicago, complete with live music, an intimate stage and craft cocktails.
