It is well known that Caloundra’s Rolling Surf Resort is one of the coast’s best un-kept secrets and managers Anne Fredericks and John Bourke are reaping the rewards. Having purchased the management rights a little over a year ago, Anne and John have been run off their feet.
Anne said, “Being our first management rights it has been a wonderful challenge. The days are long but they are rewarding. I love being busy and we certainly are busy!”
And as if being flat out isn’t enough, Anne and John are also currently in the middle of organising the resort renovations as well.
“The body corporate is about to spend a large amount of money on doing up the common areas and exteriors. The poolside apartments are also being completely refurbished with new paint, furniture and soft furnishings and the ocean side apartments, which are all individually furnished are receiving facelifts. It has taken a lot of preparation and hard work and we still have so much more to do but the first orders have been placed and work will commence in the near future. It will be exciting when it all begins.”
While Rolling Surf Resort is Anne and John’s first management rights, they are by no means strangers to the industry. Anne and John started out two and a half years ago as relief managers in a residential complex on the Gold Coast.
“When we were relieving, we were presented the opportunity to come up the coast. We wanted to be in a different place with a different environment and so when someone told us about Rolling Surf Resort we decided to get involved in the business as part of the partnership and was offered the onsite management as part of that.”
Anne said in the short time she and John have been at Rolling Surf Resort they have really enjoyed the challenge of learning the industry, running their own business and exceeding their owner’s expectations.
“We wanted something we could get our teeth into and something we could work together on whilst expanding our knowledge. Everything we do we do with passion. We are entrusted by the owners to look after their assets and we want them to be pleased and want them to reap the rewards of what we do.”
With Anne’s background as a maintenance manager of a large portfolio of commercial buildings for a council in New Zealand and John’s 20 years experience in real estate, this move into management rights has proved to be a perfect partnership.
“I wanted to stay in an industry I had been associated with and management rights were the closest thing I could get to what I had done previously and I am so glad we did.”
