Terrigal Sails

For Terrigal Sails manager, Lisa Standish, starting her career in management rights was simply fate.

After spending three years residing on the Gold Coast, Lisa was asked to relief manage an accommodation complex. Two years and one fantastic introduction to management rights later, Lisa started looking to buy her own business. After searching unsuccessfully in the Surfers Paradise area, Lisa said the opportunity she had been looking for came in a phone call from her father.

“My father was reading the Sydney Morning Herald and rang to say that there were some management rights in Terrigal. I had grown up in Terrigal so I knew how beautiful the area was and my parents still reside there so it was like fate,”

Lisa has been at the four-star Terrigal Sails Apartments for just over two years now.

Although she experienced a few minor hiccups when she first started, it is obvious now there is nothing but clear sailing ahead.

“At first the owners were a little standoffish as they did not get along with the previous manager but all is great now. The highlights of managing Terrigal Sails would have to be living in one of the most beautiful places in Australia, maybe the world and the type of clientele we get here. They are generally lovely and a pleasure to deal with and I also have a great committee who give me no grief,” Lisa says.

In the short time Lisa has been manager at Terrigal Sails she has ensured that the complex is in the forefront of all central coast tourism and marketing campaigns and endeavours to keep the owners informed on future marketing strategies.

“We are members of Central Coast Tourism and any advertising they do we are usually involved. My aim is to keep my owners informed in all areas such as our marketing strategy for the year and any new developments in the area that may have an impact on us; I do this through a newsletter that is sent out with their statements each month and have found this to be very effective,”

While the Terrigal Sails complex is only seven years old and does not require major refurbishments, Lisa is ensuring it consistently looks new, sharp and clean through minor facelifts.

“The building both externally and internally was built by a very smart developer and it has not really need much change since I’ve been here but it does need an internal refurbishment to retain our four-star rating. Also some of the bedding and furniture needs updating – I plan to get this done in our quieter months of the year,”

At Terrigal Sails quiet times are rare for Lisa and her few loyal staff of two receptionists, four cleaners and one maintenance man, as they are constantly inundated with guests from all over Australia.

“Our demographic of guests is mainly couples in their mid 30s to 50s. A majority of them are from Sydney but because Terrigal is becoming a little metropolis with amazing eateries, boutique shops and lovely beaches the whole area is just getting busier and busier with visitors. The Esplanade has just had a facelift with the front eateries now having a large paved area to place their table and chairs and that has given Terrigal a fantastic holiday feel.”

Vibrant Terrigal Offers Everything
Built in 1999, Terrigal Sails offers holiday makers the best of both worlds with the beach only minutes from the complex door and restaurants, bars and boutique specialty shops all around. Designed to cater for all types of guests, Terrigal Sails offers a choice of three apartment styles: spa apartments, studio apartments and one-bedroom apartments in either standard or deluxe.

All apartments feature direct dial telephone, television, kitchenette with fridge, kettle, toaster and dining set, reverse cycle air-conditioning, hair dryer, iron and ironing board and Foxtel.

The standard spa apartment is a large living space with ensuite, shower, a separate two-person spa and Juliet balcony. The deluxe spa apartment is exactly the same except the unit receives fantastic Terrigal Basin views.

“The spa apartments are decorated like a honeymoon suite with exactly the same facilities as the studio except for the large two-person spa which is separate to the shower toilet ensuite,” says manager Lisa Standish.

The standard studio apartment is a large living space with en suite whereas the deluxe studio apartment, although the same inside, it features an additional medium sized balcony with picturesque views of Terrigal Basin.

“The one-bedroom apartment is the largest apartment with a separate living area and sleeping area. It has all the same facilities as the studio apartment but also has a large balcony that joins both the living and sleeping areas,”

Both the standard and deluxe one-bedroom apartments feature a fully furnished living area and the only difference between the two is the deluxe suite balcony receives incredible urban views of Terrigal Basin.

The deluxe rooms are situated on the top floor of the four-storey building. There are only five apartments on this level. The remaining 18 units are divided between the first and second levels. There are 23 rooms in total as well as a conference centre.

Terrigal Sails offer small exclusive conference packages catering for 30 people or wedding and events packages for up to 50 people. Food is provided by a local caterer and for larger groups of delegates, Terrigal Sails works in conjunction with two conference facilities situated within walking distance from the complex.

While much time could be spent bubbling away in the spas at Terrigal Sails, there are numerous leisure activities available in the surrounding area such as tennis, horse riding, golf, charter game fishing, shopping, food, live entertainment, hiking, swimming, surfing, scuba diving, sail boarding and kayaking and for all those water orientated activities, Terrigal Sails provides guests with complimentary beach accessories.

“Situated just 150m from the beach we provide complimentary beach towels and beach umbrellas.” Lisa said.
