Strategic Becomes Air Australia

Strategic Airlines has launched its livery for Air Australia after rebranding is completed later this year.

Designed by the Sean Cummins, who was behind the original Virgin Blue livery, says it combines a series of Australian icons: the Air Australia symbol is a “stylised boomerang” while the “subtle silver grey” represents “gum trees, koalas and grey kangeroos”.

The official date for the rebrand is October 30 when the first liveried A320, new uniforms and updated interiors will be ready to go. The remaining A320s will all be updated by the end of the year, with its A330s completed by February.

As Air Australia, the focus will continue to be on growing leisure, according to group managing director and chief executive, Michael James.

“Alliances will be a big part,” James revealed, hinting that they were in talks with some airlines, but it was “very early days”.

Strategic launched its service to Phuket earlier this year, with flights between Brisbane and Melbourne and a service to Honolulu scheduled to start in December. China flights expected to start in the first or second quarter of next year.
