Etihad joins Virgin in TA deal
Hot on the heels of Virgin Australia’s deal to double its commitment to Tourism Australia – worth $12 million over three years – Etihad Airways has signed a three-year marketing agreement with the promotional body for $6 million.
Etihad’s CEO James Hogan said Australia was an important market with 16% of the airline’s seat capacity focusing on this country.
Tourism Australia managing director Andrew McEvoy said the memorandum of understanding with the Abu Dhabi-based carrier would target visitors from the Middle East and Europe.
In November, Qantas CEO Alan Joyce terminated its partnership with Tourism Australia – worth $44 million over three years – because of TA’s chairman Geoff Dixon’s alleged conflict of interest as part of a group of investors
proposing to take over the carrier.
