Star Ratings relaunches a new era

A major restructuring of Star Ratings Australia has been completed and a new era is about to start.

Damien Hanger, general manager of Star Ratings Australia, told accomnews the company is now a leaner, more sustainable, stand alone accrediting business with a totally new strategic direction. Some contract staff have been let go but head office staff in Melbourne remains unchanged and key members are also based in Newcastle and Orange.

Mr Hanger said, “Key operations remain unchanged and new and exciting announcements will soon be made reflecting the new commercial direction that will be very beneficial to our 6000 licensees. It’s going to be a lot of hard work but not an unsurmountable task.”

Star Ratings Australia has moved its operations from a calendar year basis to a financial year one.

Licensees will be told of the new direction on 30 May and be advised of any rescheduling of assessments.

Three contracted assessors would be completing three-yearly assessments of all properties.

The automobile clubs started up the star ratings system back in the early 1950s for their own motel chain before forming AAA Tourism in 1999 to manage the ratings scheme. That company, along with its associated publishing arm, was disbanded last year and a new management structure was established from 1 January 2014 under the umbrella of Australian Motoring Services.
