Business travellers changing approach to corporate travel

According to recent research, travelling professionals recognise they will always have to submit to corporate spending controls and travel policies created by the companies they work for.

In fact, 63 percent of business travellers globally see greater scrutiny of travel budgets and expenses by companies today than in years past. But changing business traveller preferences – including a desire for greater flexibility, control and personalisation in how they manage their business trips – means companies need to adapt to be smarter and savvier in how they encourage and manage their employees’ travel.
According to recent research from Booking.com for Business, the global leader in connecting business travellers with the widest choice of places to stay:
  • More than half (52 percent) of Australian business travellers would like more freedom and control over managing their business travel
  • Over six in 10 Aussies (61 percent) prefer to book their trips themselves so they can select their preferred accommodation

[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”15046″ align=”left”]With the proliferation of online travel booking and management tools, and user-friendly mobile apps, travelling professionals are increasingly looking for the same ease, choice, and flexibility that they experience when booking leisure travel and accommodation in their work environment. The impact of technology on business travel is already being felt by professionals – over two-thirds of Australian business travellers (64 percent) believe new technologies and gadgets are making business travel more personalised and effective than ever before.
However, employees today are also looking to maximise the full potential of each business trip, in terms of work productivity but also individual growth ambitions such as being inspired, learning a skill or better understanding a new culture. To do this, employees are making changes to how they approach business travel, whether contributing their own funds or pooling resources with colleagues – with optimising accommodation and choosing where they stay a top priority.
