Million-dollar makeovers for two of TFE Hotels’ favourites

Adina Apartment Hotel Brisbane Anzac Square and Travelodge Resort Darwin are showcasing their 2020 million-dollar facelifts.

Anzac Square and the adjoining building, including the Adina, constitute the most important Queensland example of the Anzac memorial movement. The apartment-style Brisbane CBD hotel has been updated with heritage architecture and contemporary design. Inside, classic white wainscoting panelled headboards and cabinetry dominate whilst gold accessories add a bold flash to the colour scheme.

During the original build, emphasis was placed on the use of local products (in line with the government’s “Queensland Made” policy at the time). Timbers such as silky oak, rose mahogany, maple, walnut bean were incorporated for parquetry flooring whilst public areas were lined with marble supplied from Rockhampton. These features and original fretwork can be seen throughout the hotel today.

Travelodge Resort Darwin

Meanwhile the Northern Territory’s resort-style Travelodge Darwin is showcasing its $3.7m “Wet Season” refurbishment. Each of the hotel’s 168 rooms and 32 self-contained townhouses were “stripped to the bones, and new TFE Dreamcatcher beds and bedding, smart TVs introduced alongside upgraded guest Wi-Fi and a fresh new design scheme throughout”.

Designed around lush resort-style pools and a waterfall, the Travelodge is an urban oasis in the heart of Darwin’s CBD, offering a great short or long stay alternative accommodation offering for both leisure and corporate travellers alike.

TFE Hotels’ Cluster General Manager for Darwin, Sid Bhatia, said the refurbishment came just as Trip Advisor announced their Top 25 emerging destinations for 2020 – with Darwin the only Australian city to make the cut.

“Our tropical capital really comes into its own in The Dry,” he said. “The weather is fantastic with clear blue skies and balmy nights, and the city’s colourful events calendar means there’s always something to entertain and amuse.”

Bhatia says, Travelodge’s new-look rooms capture the essence of the Top End, while delivering a scheme that balances modernity with the relaxed tropical resort experience that Travelodge Darwin is renowned for.

“This refurbishment program provided the opportunity to support the local business community locally sourcing goods and equipment, and by using local trades and labour,” Mr Bhatia said. “Importantly, we also donated furnishings, fixtures, whitegoods and TVs to help benefit local community groups, and recycled where possible.”
