Richard Munro will depart the Accommodation Association of Australia (AAoA) on September 30 as his contract as Interim CEO comes to an end, wrapping up his tenure that has seen him play a significant role in the proposed amalgamation with Tourism Accommodation Australia (TAA).
Munro stepped into the position in September 2021, returning to the role that he had held previously from mid-2011 to mid-2019.
Over the past year, he has worked closely with the Council to support members, advocate for the industry and prepare for the upcoming proposed amalgamation that will see the formation of Accommodation Australia, the peak industry body representing Australia’s economically important accommodation sector
The proposed amalgamation is due to be formalised by mid-2023 subject to regulatory steps including a ballot of all members.
Leanne Harwood, Accommodation Association President thanked Richard “for his contribution during his year as Interim CEO and for his advocacy of our organisation, members and sector during his time in the role”.
She said: “Richard has played a key role in leading the amalgamation discussions across TAA and the AAoA including prior to accepting the Interim CEO role and, now that the project is moving closer to completion, and with both associations working so closely together, we thank Richard for his extensive contribution and leadership.”
On his departure, Richard Munro said: “As I said when I returned to the role a year ago, this is a sector I love and believe in.
“Accepting the role of Interim CEO as we embarked on the historic amalgamation proposal with Australian Hotels Association and Tourism Accommodation Australia was the perfect opportunity to get the job done for our members and industry.
“The Accommodation sector has certainly had its share of challenges in recent times and I am proud of my part in helping the Accommodation Association and our members meet those challenges and set the frame for an even brighter future”
