Sam Panetta named new GM of Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour

Hotel owner Dr Jerry Schwartz said Sam knows Sydney and the Sofitel brand very well and is confident he’ll further enhance the hotel’s prestigious reputation.

Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour has announced the appointment of Sam Panetta as its new General Manager, following the retirement of Greg Brady.

A well-respected leader in the luxury hospitality sector, Panetta brings more than 30 years of industry experience, including over two decades in senior roles with Accor. His previous appointments include General Manager positions at Pullman Magenta Shores Resort, Pullman Quay Grand Sydney Harbour, and Sofitel Sydney Wentworth.

Most recently, Panetta led the $70 million transformation and relaunch of Sofitel Sydney Wentworth, demonstrating his strategic vision and operational expertise. He is known for inspiring high-performing teams and delivering five-star profitability, earning a reputation as a leader committed to creating exceptional guest experiences.

“I am honoured to lead the team at Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour—a property I know and admire deeply,” Panetta said. “Each hotel in the Sofitel family tells its own story, shaped by its location and guests, but what connects them all is an unwavering commitment to luxury hospitality with a touch of French zest. Hotel owner Dr Jerry Schwartz said Panetta’s appointment comes at an ideal time for Sydney’s recovering tourism market. “Under Sam’s management, we look forward to a very strong end to 2025, with major events such as Lions rugby, The Ashes, and SXSW putting Sydney in the global spotlight,”
