Bay of Palms Resort

Ann Michelon and Ian Glasson are the proud managers of Bay of Palms Resort. Having taken over the property on the 1 April 2008, there have luckily been no April Fools surprises for Ann and Ian, for as their first year milestone draws nearer they are celebrating a very successful first 12 months.

“It has been a big step but a very successful one. The body corporate and owners are all fantastic, it has been a real dream to walk into,” Ann commented.

After a smooth transition into the business, Ian and Ann have spent the past 11 months putting their ‘personal mark’ on the property.

“When we took over the property it was what you would describe as very tired. So we have been making it feel more like a resort through our personal touches. For example, we have put stone buddhas and Bali flags throughout the gardens to give it a more resort feel along with a new front entrance sign and logo. We have also been busy refurbishing some of the units. Ian is a builder by trade and well known around many resorts for his unit refurbishments, so he is very hands-on and does all the maintenance, lawns and refurbs.

The last unit we did was a total renovation and Ian was able to do all of that, which has saved the owners a lot of money. Hopefully we will encourage more owners into doing more refurbishments this year.

“Body corporate has approved a full repaint of the building and this will be carried out this year. It is currently painted a pink colour so we are going to repaint it in chocolate and cream to give it a modern face-lift. The building is more than 20 years old and it is definitely time for some updating.”

Bay of Palms Resort is Ann first taste of management rights ownership although she is no stranger to the accommodation industry.

“I have been in the industry for over 20 years. During this time I worked as a front office manager for Quality Inns, Strand Resorts and more recently Dreamtime Resorts. Bay of Palms is however Ian’s second management rights property. He owned one previously and I always wanted to get into it but it was all about finding the right person to do it with and being financial at the right time.”

Ann said it was Ian who initially fell in love with Bay of Palms.

“I’d heard of the property and new it existed but the area didn’t really appeal to me because I had always been a Broadbeach, centre of the Gold Coast type. But now I am here I love it and am so glad we took the step.”
