Island Beach Resort
Just over 12 months ago, Gold Coast locals Greg and Jenny Jermyn purchased the management rights to Island Beach Resort in Broadbeach. In the short year or so the Jermyns have been at Island Beach Resort they have fallen in love with the industry, their property and the location. Already they have repainted all the rooms, replaced all the curtains and reestablished all the gardens.
Speaking with Jenny and Greg, their enthusiasm and excitement that is often associated with the purchase of a new business venture, makes you think this is their first management rights. However, it is quite the contrary.
Greg owned and operated a motel in Cobar for 13 years prior to their move up the coast.
Upon arriving here, Greg began working at Property Pacific and purchased management rights in Tallai.
Greg said, “The purchasing of the property in Tallai happened just as the Asian crisis hit so we got stuck with this massive home and that was when we purchased a newsagency in Highland Park. However, I always wanted to get back into the industry.”
Jenny supports this statement, “Yes, the whole time we had the newsagency Greg kept saying he wanted to get back into management rights.”
However, when the Jermyn’s sold the newsagency they decided it was to retire but then that only lasted a couple of months.
Greg said, “We love the contact with people. That was the problem when had those few months off, you can only go and play golf so many times a week.”
So Greg started looking for a management right business.
“We wanted something close to where our house was something in a great location, something not too big so it was easy to run. When we saw Island Beach Resort it was the perfect size.
“We’re now settled in and we love it. After the newsagency and the motel it is a breeze. I have always worked seven days a week so I’m used to it but in the motel industry I had to get up at 5am and cook breakfast before starting with the linen change and we were open 24 hours in this situation we don’t open the office until 8am and at night we have a Nitel system that guides late guests through check-in.”
With Greg’s motelier experience and Jenny’s extensive knowledge obtained during the years she operated her own cleaning business has transferred well into their business, assisting in the excellent management of their back of house systems and the overall smooth running of Island Beach Resort.
Broadbeach Paradise
Centrally located on Margaret St in the heart of Broadbeach, surrounded by a range of sidewalk restaurants, cafes and brassieres and Queensland’s largest shopping centre, Pacific Fair is Island Beach Resort.
The property features 30 one- and two-bedroom apartments, each spectacularly furnished in Santa Fe style, with a superb design and superior finish. Each unit offers a fully self contained kitchen and separate laundry, living area with television and DVD player, direct dial phones, wireless broadband Internet and balconies with parkland views and a few apartments with private rooftop sun decks.
Within the grounds are tropical gardens, entertaining and barbeque areas, gazebo, pool, a resort-style spa pool and onsite undercover car parking.
