Historic home to be preserved in Mirvac development
Mirvac Group is to build 190 apartments on the grounds surrounding the heritage-listed Scarba House in Bondi, Sydney.
Designed by Smart Design Studio, the Moreton on Bondi is a complex of five mid- and low-rise apartment complexes that will replace the existing 1970s-built buildings on the 1.1ha site of Scarba House.
“Mirvac has a commendable track record of working respectfully with heritage buildings and we will ensure that Scarba House and surrounding gardens remain a much loved feature of the site for many decades to come,” said John Carfi of Mirvac Group.
Many of the apartments to capture views to Bondi Beach, the harbour, Bondi Junction and the city. Historic Scarba House and its grounds will be preserved.
The two-storey Italianate-style Scarba House was built by Malcolm Campbell as a residence in the 1880s. Its uses have included a children’s welfare home and a retirement village.
Mirvac Group says it plans to exceed the required BASIX sustainability levels by 25 per cent which will make the development the first in the Waverley Council area to achieve this result.
