Gold Coast Business Excellence Award recognises Paradise Resort Gold Coast

The resort has successfully managed the challenges of COVID-19 lockdowns.

Paradise Resort Gold Coast has been named the winner of the Gold Coast Business Excellence Award for August 2021, surviving lockdown with the help of its “dive, survive and thrive” motto.

Despite 18 months of lockdowns and travel restrictions, Paradise Resort Gold Coast has continued to strive for business success and a positive outlook for Australia’s tourism industry.

“Winning the award in August has provided a fantastic lift for the team because the month before, we went from thrive to dive in just a few weeks, as lockdown and border closures turned what was going to be a really strong winter into a blizzard of cancellations,” said David Brook, the resort’s general manager.

“It wasn’t easy for anyone at the hotel, but what the team does brilliantly is survive,” he said. “We used the COVID border-closures in 2020 to totally revamp and upgrade the hotel, including refurbished rooms, a new lobby and reception area, upgraded water park and ice rink and even a new ride-on miniature train that showcases the resort’s extensive grounds.”

According to Mr Brook, Paradise Resort Gold Coast had a strong summer season and was planning to add more facilities in 2021 before travel restrictions began in New South Wales and Queensland, leaving the resort’s staff to rebuild marketing and business development strategies from the ground up.

“We know the rest of the year is going to be problematic, but I think that is why this award means so much to the team because while we can’t change the politics of lockdowns and border closures, we can keep our incredibly supportive guests up to date with all the positive things that are happening, and I have no doubt that when the situation stabilises we will benefit from an immediate upsurge in bookings,” Mr Brooke said.

Mr Brook shared that the resort intended to continue its investment in improving its offerings to be enjoyed when guests are able to visit once more.

“Our owner – Dr Jerry Schwartz – has completely refreshed the hotel, meaning even better facilities and entertainment value for families. He is launching the first Gold Coast Beer and Cider Festival in October because he believes in the destination and tourism’s role in supporting all of the Gold Coast community.”

Winning the Gold Coast Business Excellence Awards has been a welcome acknowledgement of months of hard work and will support the resort’s dedicated team to push through the challenges posed by additional COVID-19 restrictions.

The award recognises the Gold Coast’s most innovative and high-quality businesses. Monthly winners are also in the running for the Business of the Year Award. This year’s awards will be presented on November 20 at the GCBEA Gala Awards Dinner.
