The hotel has collaborated with DV Collective, a national domestic violence initiative created to bring together Australian corporates and philanthropic organisations to do more in the domestic violence space.

Hotel General Manager, Quercy Jouannes, along with his team at SKYE Suites Parramatta wanted to support meaningful social causes and knew immediately this was an opportunity to engage with guests whilst raising much needed funds.

“We are committed to the community we live and work in, and as a team we were all aligned on this initiative. Domestic violence affects the whole family with devastating social implications.
“One positive is that the majority of sales to date have come from men. Wearing the socks raises awareness and starts conversations within the community,” said Quercy Jouannes.
DV Collective was set up by Kylie Johanson, a survivor of domestic violence herself. Her aim was to create safe places for women and children by harnessing the support of corporate organisations.
She came up with Silly Socks as a vehicle to create awareness for domestic violence and to generate funds through corporate organisations to help women and children.
Sadly, one in four women are affected by domestic violence.
Many women rely on shelters for safety and don’t turn to family as they are embarrassed and ashamed.
“Our goal is to connect resources, including financial support, pro-bono products and services and skilled volunteers, through corporate partnerships with our members, these charities and organisations, so they are able to provide the help that’s needed when it’s needed,” said Kylie Johanson.
Pairs of Silly Socks are placed in guest rooms with a tent card explaining the program and on display at reception allowing guests the option to purchase. SKYE Suites Parramatta then donates all proceeds to DV Collective.
To date the hotel has sold over 200 pairs of socks and has received incredible feedback from guests.
