5 Top Tips: Creating a ‘Digital Nomad’ friendly stay

Travel trends: Is your accommodation catering to this rapidly growing population of travellers?

There is no denying that COVID-19 has changed the way that we work. When the pandemic hit and lockdowns forced millions of workers into remote work settings, it opened our minds to a career outside of the typical 9-5.

‘Digital Nomads’ describes a growing workforce of freelancers and remote employees who choose to live and work while travelling the globe. With the ability to work from anywhere with a wifi connection, digital nomads make the world their office.

To capitalise on this growing global workforce, a number of countries have even introduced visas for digital nomads to help bolster the post-COVID economy.

To help you cater to this rapidly growing population of travellers, AccomNews has collated a list of 5 Top Tips to help create a digital nomad-friendly stay.

1. Wifi

The number one consideration for digital nomads is access to a fast and free wifi connection.

Has it been a while since you have assessed your accom’s internet connection? Now may be the perfect time to ensure you can offer your guests the very best – make it fast and easy to access.

Not contained to just guest rooms, ensure you offer wifi throughout your whole accom so digital nomads can truly embrace their lifestyle – including working poolside.

2. Co-working spaces

Think functional and creative when it comes to spaces where your guests can work. It’s not about providing the traditional formal desk in the guest room anymore, Digital Nomads want options and lots of them.

They want sofas, comfy chairs, multilevel and standing desks, and wonderful co-working spaces that are not only for digital nomads but welcoming designated workspaces that also appeal to business and leisure travellers who are increasingly mixing business with pleasure.

Create a space with ambience and make sure there are plenty of charging points, provide good coffee and snacks, a calming aesthetic with stylish comfortable workstations and digital nomads will be sure to have an enjoyable and productive stay at your accom.

3. Reward long stays

Although digital nomads are travelling the globe, it is important that they are able to fully explore every place they visit. To encourage global nomads to consider your accom, think about providing discounts or additional benefits to guests who book a stay for an extended period of time.

Reward and encourage them to mix business with pleasure and stay for a longer ‘Bleisure’ break.

4. Stand out from the crowd

The freedom of the digital nomad lifestyle is that workers are able to travel wherever their heart desires. Is your accommodation offering located near an area of exceptional natural beauty? Is there a local hotspot that is particularly popular with tourists? Make sure to highlight what sets your accommodation apart.

5. Provide transport solutions

A significant downside to living out of a suitcase is the heavy reliance on public transport or walking to sightsee. Consider providing guests with the option to rent bikes or e-scooters through your accommodation, not only will this help provide an additional source of income but it is sure to attract new guests – including those living a (digital) nomadic lifestyle!
