Basq House: New boutique hotel for Byron Bay

The 32-room boutique hotel will be operated by locally based Jeremy & Jones better known for their involvement in launching Elements of Byron

Located in idyllic Byron Bay, and on Bundjalung Country, Basq House is a 32-room boutique hotel set to open in Autumn 2024.

A discrete haven for travellers, Basq House will be a hideaway in the heart of Byron’s village centre, offering guests an oasis of calm and sophistication, and a hotel from where you can explore the hinterland, vibrant restaurant scene and renowned beach culture.

Much like a house, and with a distinct indoor-outdoor aesthetic, the floor plan of the hotel consists of a reception area, that doubles as a bar, a generous, speakeasy-style Lounge Room, that flows through to the outdoors, and a Library, that will feature bespoke floor-to-ceiling bookcases and shelves filled with an eclectic collection of books, low-slung sofas and a large open fireplace for an extra cozy vibe in the cooler months. Landscaped greenery will frame the jewel in Basq House’s crown, the central swimming pool, to create a welcoming sanctuary with custom cabanas and sun loungers.

These free-flowing communal spaces are at the heart of the House – designed to encourage interaction and connection among guests, they will be places for socialising; to eat drink and play.

Another focal point of the House will be the impressive skylit feature staircase that leads to the two floors of rooms, some with balconies and some that overlook the pool, while others will offer a Marvel Street or Fletcher Lane aspect. The well-appointed rooms, with a mix of formats, are thoughtfully designed and will enjoy the luxury of high ceilings, and a soothing soft colour palette layered with natural materials.

With Byron Bay being the well-being capital of Australia, Basq House will have a holistic approach to health and wellness. The hotel’s rooftop will be a space to retreat to for reflection, relaxation and rejuvenation. During the day there will be zones for yoga, meditation and personal training sessions. Come sunset, it will transform into a chilled place for sunset drinks and star gazing for hotel guests only. The hotel will also have and a multi-level wellness destination with infrared saunas, ice plunges, flotation tanks, massages and more.

The property will be operated by locally based Jeremy & Jones, who bring an internationally proven independent hotelier business model that is at the forefront of hospitality.

“Our remit was to deliver an authentic hotel with soul and one that stays true to its location. With Basq House we will place a significant emphasis on strong placemaking, hotel interiors, sensory inputs such as light, sound and smell, out-of-guest room experiences and the delivery of pre-emptive service.” Said Jeremy and Jones Director, David Jones.

He says the visceral appeal of Byron sits in the town’s unique blend of slow, nurturing and vibrant experiences.
