The biggest tourism business event in New Zealand is set to open in Rotorua next week, the birthplace of international tourism in New Zealand.

The event will connect New Zealand’s tourism industry leaders and representatives with international buyers, showcasing our unique offerings and products. Over three days, tourism operators and international buyers will build and renew relationships and deals for the coming year, helping to grow New Zealand’s tourism industry directly.

This year’s theme is Tūhonoa te Tāngata | Connecting People, and reflects the opportunities that TRENZ presents for connection and engagement with international partners.

AccomNews will join hundreds of tourism operators and buyers to hear from leaders of the tourism industry, investigate recent trends and consumer demands, and hear directly from operators and the broader sector.

Originally known as Tourism Rendezvous New Zealand, TRENZ  has over 60 years of history and plays a key role in driving our international tourism market. The event is managed by Tourism Industry Aotearoa (TIA) on behalf of the Tourism Industry New Zealand Trust and is sponsored by Air New Zealand and Tourism New Zealand.

This will be the third year the event has run in person following the COVID-19 pandemic and will include talks from Tourism New Zealand, Auckland Airport, New Zealand Māori Tourism and more.

Last year’s event, held in Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington, saw 15,000 appointments between buyers and sellers.

Rebecca Ingram, chief executive of TIA, said they were excited to bring TRENZ to Rotorua.

“Rotorua is the birthplace of international tourism in New Zealand and we are excited to be taking TRENZ back there next year. With the strong support of RotoruaNZ, we will be able to showcase some of New Zealand’s most exceptional tourism experiences to our international guests.”

Tania Tapsell, Mayor of Rotorua, said the city was the perfect place to host TRENZ during the closing ceremony of the event in Wellington last year.

“Rotorua is a world-famous destination, well-known for our attractions, culture and beautiful environment. We cannot wait to host next year’s event and boost our reputation as a top tourism destination.”
