Since Svensson assumed his role a year ago, W Melbourne has not only exceeded its financial targets but has also significantly outpaced its competitors.

The hotel’s revenue per available room (RevPAR) shows a robust 10.9 percent growth year-to-date, well above the competitor average of 2.5 percent. Likewise, its occupancy has surged by 10.4 percent, a striking contrast to the comp set’s average growth of just 2.1 percent.

The hotel has also experienced a 20 percent year-on-year increase in conferences and events in 2024, with projections indicating an upward trend to 30 percent in 2025.

“When I took on the role of General Manager, I wanted W Melbourne to set a benchmark for others in the industry, and I’m proud to see that vision realised. Our team’s dedication is evident in our growth, and it is their hard work that enables us to deliver an exceptional guest experience that embodies Melbourne’s vibrant culture,” Svensson said.

With over thirty years in luxury hotel management across the Middle East, Pacific, and Asia, Svensson brings a wealth of experience to his role at W Melbourne. Since joining Marriott International in 2002, he has held prominent positions globally, shaping his expertise in fostering cultural connectivity and guest satisfaction, which he brings to the Melbourne property.

Svensson’s leadership and Marriott’s dedication to embedding Melbourne’s energy and artistic spirit in every aspect of the hotel are key drivers behind W Melbourne’s success.

The hotel’s appeal is further enhanced by its luxurious amenities, featuring 294 stylish guest rooms and 29 suites, designed to reflect Melbourne’s rich history and cultural tapestry.

W Melbourne’s hospitality extends beyond accommodation, with signature dining experiences such as Warabi and Lollo, the high-end cocktail venue Curious, and the iconic WET Deck, all embodying Melbourne’s renowned culinary diversity.

As part of Marriott Bonvoy’s celebrated portfolio, W Melbourne will welcome increased traveller interest in early 2025 as Marriott reprises its role as an official partner of the Australian Open and the Formula One Australian Grand Prix.

With an influx of visitors eager to experience Melbourne’s vibrant culture and major events, Marriott’s ten Melbourne properties, including W Melbourne, anticipate strong bookings for the season, cementing the city’s status as Australia’s sporting and cultural capital.
