Online Food Safety Training for NSW

After successfully providing more than 5000 Queenslanders with food safety supervisor qualifications, Southbank Institute of Technology is now a preferred supplier of hospitality training for businesses across New South Wales.

Over the past two years, Southbank Institute delivered its online food safety supervisor program to organisations including Sizzler, Red Rooster, Lenard’s Chickens, Queensland Hotel Association and Birch Carroll and Coyle.

This year, Southbank Institute has been working with the NSW Food Authority to tailor its program for new state legislation introduced August 2010, that requires all licensable NSW hospitality and food retail businesses to employ a qualified food safety supervisor.

Craig Sherrin, Southbank Institute director and CEO, says its online food safety supervisor program is designed for flexible learning and has been adapted to suit the individual needs of businesses across several Australian states.

“We understand businesses and workers in hospitality are often timepoor and require flexibility in the way they access their study options. We’ve developed our course to be relevant, selfpaced and affordable.”

Southbank Institute’s food safety supervisor course can be completed online over four weeks. It provides qualifications in food hygiene and safe food handling and a step-by-step guide on how to develop and implement a food safety program in the workplace.

A food safety supervisor is required to take a lead role in supervising food safety in the food business. Anyone, including the business owner, licence holder, employee or an external contractor can be a food safety supervisor for a business, provided they meet the required competencies.
