Spicers buy Blue Mountains eco resort

Graham and Jude Turner’s Spicers Group has acquired the unique Sangoma boutique resort in NSW’s Blue Mountains.

The eco resort created by Michael Podles and Zenga Butler, is located at Bowen Mountain, a Sydney sandstone ridgetop with over 300 different native plant species and is renowned for its bush-walking experiences.

Spicers recently purchased the Victoria Court Hotel in Sydney’s Potts and, with the Sangoma purchase, now has nine boutique hotels – three in NSW.

No purchase price has been released but the resort was valued at around $6 million for the five-suite plus manager’s residence complex. Paul Kapiris from CBRE Hotels said the property was sold within two weeks of the close of the expressions of interest campaign.

Sangoma Retreat is on 4.5ha of bushland only 70 minutes from Sydney CBD and has been fully certified by ECO Tourism Australia. Room rates are around $1100 a night.
