Iconic Melbourne Marriott Hotel gets a glow-up

The first phase of a multi-stage refurbishment saw the opening of the sleek new M Bar and sophisticated M Club lounge for Marriott Bonvoy members

The iconic Melbourne Marriott Hotel, located on the corner of Exhibition and Lonsdale Streets, has undergone a stunning $3.1 million ground floor refurbishment, room refresh and technology upgrade over the past 18 months, and is looking forward to wowing guests with its new look this spring and summer.

The first phase of a multi-stage refurbishment saw the opening of the sleek new M Bar and sophisticated M Club lounge for Marriott Bonvoy members – both of which have proved highly popular with guests and city dwellers since launching in September 2022.

Next on the refresh agenda was updating the technology and carpets in all 188 rooms, carrying through a consistent tone-on-tone grey and brown colour palette, detailing and feel to the stylish M Bar and M Club. Updating the rooms’ furniture and styling will be the hotel’s next focus.

Melbourne Marriott Hotel’s General Manager Gaurav Wattal said the ground floor upgrade and new additions have given the five-star hotel a modern refresh while retaining its renowned classic charm.

There’s a lot of nostalgia attached to Melbourne Marriott Hotel – it was one of the first world-class hotels to open in this cosmopolitan city and we’ve worked hard to consistently offer a premium experience and exceptional service for more than two decades,” he said.

“We have collaborated with the interior design team at Melbourne company One Design Office (ODO) to make our vision for the refurbishment and room refresh into a reality and we’re rapt with the results.

“We’ve been able to create a modern and inviting atmosphere that flows throughout the entrance, lounge and bar areas as well as guest rooms.

“The technology and connectivity needs of today’s travellers have been a focal point of our updates to communal spaces and guest rooms, including new Chromecast TVs, USB charging stations and high-speed wifi.

Gaurav explained that M Club is an exclusive sanctuary for ‘Platinum Elite’ tier and above Marriott Bonvoy members as well as guests booked in Executive rooms to relax, unwind, refuel or tap away on the laptop.

“Our M Club is an exclusive, but homely, sanctuary with a mix of communal tables, comfy sofas and corner nooks to suit guests feeling sociable or wanting a quiet spot to read and chill out,” he said.

“Our guests have been hugely complimentary of this ‘stage one’ refresh, with changes to our feature restaurant, Essence, still to come.”

M Club is open daily from 6 am to 10 pm, serving complimentary breakfast, all-day nibbles and (non-alcoholic) refreshments. A rotating selection of canapes is served each evening (5.30 pm to 7.30 pm) along with premium beverages, including beer and wine (5.30 pm to 9.30 pm).

A focal point of the Melbourne Marriott Hotel’s reimagined ground floor is the M Bar that’s open to hotel guests and the public from Wednesday to Sunday, 4 pm ‘til late.

“Whiskey fans are spoilt for choice with a range of 40 top-shelf brands and styles and there’s more than 70 wines on the beverage list as well as our signature Melbourne Marriott Hotel themed cocktails,” Gaurav said.

“M Bar hosts live music sessions on Friday evenings which are a great way to finish the working week or kick-off the weekend.”

There’s also a lot happening in the kitchen, with esteemed Head Chef Swami Nanden at the helm.

“We’ve introduced a number of new food and beverage offerings, including a ‘New York comes to Uptown Melbourne’ high tea in Essence Restaurant, and will be holding our popular Christmas day lunch and dinner feasts with all the festive trimmings.”

Melbourne Marriott Hotel has a range of packages, including family-friendly glamping and couple/friend escapes, throughout spring and summer.
