$300m hotel for GC theme park area

Plans for a $300 million, 450-room hotel located half way between Dreamworld and Movie World have been lodged with the Gold Coast City Council. It would be built in the Gold Coast theme park precinct.

The project is proposed by the owners of Homeworld Helensvale on land owned by joint-venture partners Grant McLennan and Les Aynsley adjacent the Homeworld centre.

Mr McLennan said showroom shops would be built first, pending council approval, and construction of the hotel would begin within two years.

“We believe there will be more demand in the lead-up to the 2018 Commonwealth Games,” Mr McLennan said.

He said he was looking to build a hotel because of the proximity to the theme parks.

If approval is forthcoming, building will start in about 12 months.
